Born and raised in the hill country of  central Texas, I belong to a family who loved creating unique yet functional objects.  My father, a mathematician, rockhound and avid woodworker, drove our family across the western United States in search of rocks. We would pitch a tent in a remote piece of American wilderness and dig for agate, geodes, quartz and fossils. Through him I came to love the beauty of natural stone and appreciate the labor required to acquire it. He also taught me the patience needed to conceptualize and build three dimensional projects.  My mother, seamstress extraordinaire, filled my life with color, line and texture, always reinforcing the truism that careful attention to construction is critical to achieve form.  My sister, a talented graphic artist and accomplished silversmith, introduced me to the art of working silver. I have been hooked ever since. In recent years I have spent time honing my skills with the excellent teachers at the Wake Center Jewelry Studio and at Idyllwild Art Center in Southern California.

When designing a new piece, I always start with the cabochon. I then work to visually connect its beautiful natural lines and intricate patterns with simple complementary shapes fashioned out of silver, copper and brass.  My goal is to let the stone be the star.
